"Cold Weather" (NYC only and the title accurately reflects our current weather..brr. An indie mystery/thriller produced by IFC Films, could be good.)
"The Roommate" (subtitle: Single White Female for Gen Y crowd)
"The Other Woman" (LA/NYC only. Starring Natalie Portman...who may now simultaneously have at least 3-4 movies showing on screens on the same weekend! With Lisa Kudrow.)
This Week's DVD Releases (2/1)
"Welcome to the Rileys" (featuring the wonderful Melissa Leo - who is finally on her way to becoming a household name thanks to her wins for "The Fighter" - and the great James Gandolfini)
"Catfish"
My Reading List
"That Old Cape Magic" - Richard Russo
What's on the Tube
"Modern Family" (Continues to be hysterical!!!)
"The Office" (I'll admit, there was time in the not-too-recent past that I'd thought my beloved "Office" was on the verge of being stale. As if! Reinvention has been underway for some time and one of the recent episodes had me in stitches the entire 22 minutes. Loving the expansion of Darryl's character. And, know he's be psyched with my conversion to the Nook :)
"The Good Wife" (for the most part, the second season is very strong and it seems like they are setting up some very juicy storylines!)
"30 Rock" (I guess if you put rock in the name, then you will...you know....rock. And they do.)
"Law & Order: SVU" (Yes, we still DVR it but...most of the time, after we watch it, we wonder why...even ask it aloud. SVU, sadly, has jumped the shark and there's no goin' back. I will say I do enjoy some of the unintentional comedy when Olivia, Elliott or both are so over the top)
"How I Met Your Mother" (I don't know if I can wait to find out who the mother is any longer. The show started five years ago, which coincided with my oldest nephew's birth. He is now in kindergarten; why hasn't Ted found her already?!)
"Men of a Certain Age" - I really liked this show when it debuted last year however had to temporarily drop it as there was actually too much to watch last year. Glad it was renewed, will had to play catch up via Netflix. (TNT's great new dramedy about men at mid-life. All-star lineup includes Ray Romano, Andre Braugher & Scott Bakula. Not to mention - great soundtrack!!)
Do you ever read a review by A.O. Scott at The New York Times and think 'hmm, great essay filled with some high-falutin' terminology'...yet are left wondering if the movie is actually any good?? Not here! I'd like to provide you with an entertaining blurb on what I'm seeing and what I'm reading. And to demonstrate that it is possible to appreciate the beauty of films like "Il Postino" and "Big Night" while knowing that 'brothers don't shake hands, brothers hug' is one of many, many lines that made Chris Farley a comic genius.
